Walking & Watching the Border Lands
A walk nominally led by Shawn Micallef

Sunday, October 26, 2014 3:30 pm – 5 pm

Inspired by the Possible Futures: What is to be done? triennial exhibition, a walk leaving from the Art Gallery of Windsor will pass through traces of Windsor's past and hopeful present. A back-route through familiar territory, this psychogeographic walk will be less an historical tour (though there may be some of that) than a walk where attention is paid to how the places walked make participants feel and what details are usually overlooked. Walkers are encouraged to share memories and observations throughout the walk and ad hoc diversions may come up on a generally circuitous walk into Windsor and back to the gallery. The walk might go off road, but it won't infiltrate. It will, ultimately, hopefully, be convivial.

-Shawn Micallef is Windsor native and currently a Toronto Star columnist, co-owner and an editor of Spacing magazine, and co-founder of the mobile phone public space documentary project [murmur]. He teaches at the University of Toronto and is the author of Stroll: Psychogeographic Walking Tours of Toronto and his latest book is The Trouble With Brunch: Work, Class, & the Pursuit of Leisure.
