The Art Gallery of Windsor is committed to providing quality and relevant art programming for adults and children. The AGW offers tours for all schools, community groups such as brownies, seniors, special needs and ESL groups. We also provide free docent tours Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays (does not apply to groups).

For youth tours, a hands-on studio activity can be included. A tour/studio is two hours in length. Tours are also available in French; please make this request when booking your tour.

How Do I Book a Tour? To book a tour, contact the Tour Coordinator, 519-977-0013 ext 103. You are required to book your tour at least three weeks in advance. Any tours cancelled within a week of the tour date will be charged a 20% administration fee ($20 maximum). When calling, please leave a phone number, fax number, time and date when you would like to come, and the age and number of children in your group. You will receive a confirmation by mail or by fax, as well as a tour package including current exhibition materials, teacher's resource kits and any information relevant to your visit. Please advise us of your special needs and of any participants that may require specific attention during the tour. Space is available for students to bring and eat a bag lunch.

Cost? The charge for a guided public tour is $7/person, $5/seniors, which would include admission if applicable. The introductory tour for students is $5/student, $6/tour-studio (minimum: 10; maximum: 70)

  • All fees are payable on the day of the tour, please have one person collect all monies beforehand
  • Cheques should be made payable to the Art Gallery of Windsor
  • Teachers/chaperones: one to every 10 children at no charge; $6 per additional adult

Self-Guided Group Tours (of 10 or more) should be booked two weeks in advance. The cost of a tour kit for self guided tours is $20. Please give the right of way in the gallery to guided tour groups. Adequate supervision of these groups is required. You will receive an AGW Education Kit prior to your tour. Short video documentaries on exhibiting artists are also available for $15.

Teachers: Do you have a work assignment planned for your class at the gallery? Let us know in advance. We can design a tour that will assist students in completing their assignment. Please note that the use of pens is prohibited in the galleries, and that visitors are not allowed to write against the walls. Our security guards need to know how long your group will remain in the gallery and whether pencils will be used. Security is authorized to ask inadequately supervised groups to leave the building.

To See or Not to See! Is there a single work or section of the AGW that you would specifically like your group to see or not to see? Make sure we know in advance so that the guides can plan your tour.

Unloading and Parking: The loading and unloading of students can be done in the AGW parking lot located at the south side of the building. Please ask the bus driver to park the bus along Pitt Street West or in the public parking located across from the Gallery. Private vehicles may use the available spaces in the AGW parking lot.

Before the tour begins, please meet at the south Gallery entrance (Pitt Street West). A tour guide will greet your group and will begin the tour. We would appreciate students having name tags to wear during the tour. You will be asked to check all bags at the main floor security desk. No chewing gum or consumption of food or drink is allowed in the gallery, except in designated areas, as well we ask that you refrain from taking photographs of the artwork.

During Your Tour: It is essential that adults are present during the tour and studio activity. We require one adult per ten students in your group. Your assistance will be needed to prepare and distribute materials, monitor students, supervise the use of equipment and assist in cleanup. Chaperones are also expected to assist in monitoring the tour group and ensure that the artwork and walls are not touched. Please remind your students prior that the works of art must not be touched.

Visiting the Gift Shop: Your groups may visit the Uncommon Market Gift Shop which is open during public hours. Only one adult-supervised group of 5-6 students are allowed to enter the gift shop at a time.

Please provide this material to each adult accompanying your group.
