Art Right In Your Own Backyard

Release Date: Wednesday, September 14, 2016

In this technologically driven age, it can be difficult to distance yourself from the glare of electronic screens. Even if you manage to take a break from your social feeds, it can be even harder to find reasonably priced outings that won’t break the bank. Art galleries are a budget-friendly alternative to the monotony of nights in front of the TV, offering patrons’ valuable cultural insight and a chance to engage with the visual arts.

For Windsor-Essex audiences, the Art Gallery of Windsor (AGW) is right in your own backyard. A quick ride on Windsor Transit costs about $3. Admission to the Gallery is only $10 and gives you access to 1920s Modernism in Montreal: The Beaver Hall Group, the AGW’s blockbuster exhibition, organized and circulated by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and supplemented by the AGW’s permanent collection.

Until Sunday, October 2, you have the amazing opportunity to experience 1920s Modernism as seen by Canadian painters associated with the Beaver Hall Group. The exhibition has already been greeted with immense enthusiasm in Hamilton and Montreal and has inspired over 100,000 visitors. Take in the bold and experimental works of these artists and their closest colleagues, whose art offers a rare look at 1920s Montreal, a time profoundly impacted by jazz music and cultural revival.

October 2 also marks the end of a complementary exhibition from the Gallery’s collection, featuring Canada’s legendary Group of Seven and their invited contributors. Those interested are encouraged to visit the Gallery and take in these incredible selections of Canadian artwork over the next three weeks.

Admission is free for Gallery Members and children 5 and under and $10 for non-members. More information can be found by visiting the Gallery’s website: www.agw.ca

About the Art Gallery of Windsor

The Art Gallery of Windsor (AGW) collects, conserves, interprets, and presents Canadian art. It is a place to view significant works of art by local, regional and national artists; a place to see what Canadians have been making and thinking about for longer than Canada has been a country. The AGW is a valuable cultural resource for the Windsor area, providing the special service of showcasing Canadian art in a city that has the busiest border crossing between Canada and the United States.
