Join Indigenous artist and educator Jessica Cook for an interactive tour and art-making workshop at the Art Gallery of Windsor! Indigenous youth and their families are invited to attend a guided tour of the Art Gallery of Windsor and participate in a studio activity inspired by Catherine Blackburn’s exhibition New Age Warriors.
In New Age Warriors, Blackburn uses beading to explore cultural identity, memory, and history. The artist worked with plastic Perler beads to create seven life-size warrior garments and language medallions to assert Indigenous women's perseverance, strength, and diversity. In the studio, participants will create their own beaded and mix-media works of art inspired by Blackburn’s work.
This program is focused on building community, creating art, and building safe and inclusive spaces for youth.
