Family Fun Saturdays in the Studio! with Rebecca McKenzie

Saturdays, June 4, 2022 – June 25, 2022 , 1 pm – 4 pm

Thanks to the generous and ongoing support of Anne Safranyos and family, we're excited to announce that Family Fun Saturdays in the Studio is back at AWE! Join featured artist in the studio and create your own masterpieces! 

To Participate: 

  1. All participants MUST pre-register online. Drop-in between 1-4pm on Saturdays and join us in the 2nd floor Education Studio. 
  2. This program is free with admission to AWE and open to all.
  3. Familiarize yourself with the AWE Code of Conduct

June 4th - Recycled birdhouses

In this workshop, participants will create personalized bird feeders using various recyclable materials and acrylic paint.

June 11th - Bottle cap windchimes

In this workshop, participants will create unique wind chimes using naturally sourced materials and recycled bottle caps.

June 18th - Recycled animal planters

Using precut plastic bottles, participants will create animal-shaped planters decorated with acrylic paint and sharpies.

June 25th - Mosaic paper collage

Mosaics were traditionally made with bits of tile or glass. In this workshop participants will come up with their own original designs to create mosaic-inspired collages using cut-up pieces of cardboard and recycled magazines.

 

About the Artist: Rebecca McKenzie 

Rebecca McKenzie (she/they)is an Indigenous artist from Windsor ON. She graduated from the Visual and Creative Arts program at Sheridan College and as of spring 2021, she completed her BFA in Visual Arts at the University of Windsor. Rebecca is an interdisciplinary artist, who loves to explore new mediums. Her most recent work deals with themes of personal identity and self-discovery. Classifying herself as both Indigenous and queer, she uses her art-making as a vessel to help bring awareness and advocate for both social and political injustices facing both communities. Rebecca joined the Vanguard Youth Arts Collective in 2021 and is looking forward to contributing to the collective and the Windsor-Essex community alongside youth creatives.
