Hindsight: William Hind in the Canadian West

October 5 – December 8, 2002

Location: To Be Announced

With their combination of brilliant colour, clarity of detail and atmosphere, and idiosyncratic viewpoints, the images of William G.R. Hind (1833-88) are unlike any other works of art produced in Canada during the 19th-century. Indeed, the British-born Hind developed a personal aesthetic vision that was in many ways ahead of his time.

Hindsight: William Hind in the Canadian West features 92 sketches, drawings, and paintings that capture an exciting era in Canadian history. In additions to these works, Gallery visitors can also "virtually" experience Hind's epic journey in an innovative CD-ROM which matches his imagery with the worlds of his travelling companions.
