Andy Warhol: EAT

June 1 – September 30, 2018

Location: To Be Announced

Warhol’s 1964 silent film EAT, an experimental silent film, stages the banality of eating. In collaboration with the American Pop artist, Robert Indiana, Warhol directed him to slowly eat one single mushroom. In the context of 1960’s American cinema, this film epitomizes the kinds of aesthetic and structural changes that were influencing experimental cinema produced by independent artists.
In keeping with the patterns and trends that both challenged and redefined the boundaries of film at the time, EAT exemplifies Warhol’s early cinematic themes, in particular stillness and duration.
