The Contemporary Sandwich Shop is a group exhibition showcasing eight artists invested in ideas surrounding the consumption and commodification of food through a consumer lens. In each of their works, artists Elizabeth Buset, Chloe Wise, Kari Cholnoky, Aaron Moran, Shelley Niro, Sarah Beck, Rhonda Weppler, and Lynn Donoghue contemplate the ways in which the economics of food inform the human experience of meat, salt, preservatives, fast food and food naming.
Through monumental and provocative animal imagery, food-themed accessories, sculptures of sandwiches, food labels and insights into the food service industry, the works offer timely critiques on the business of food systems, such as food production, food consumption, and food distribution.
