Windsor, ON – Bill and Rochelle Tepperman have made a generous gift in support of the Art Gallery of Windsor’s Art Education Program. The Tepperman family has sponsored 20 grade 5 classes from the Greater Essex County District School Board to attend a tour and studio activity at the Art Gallery of Windsor (AGW). These students will have the opportunity to experience the AGW’s latest exhibitions. Participating schools include Queen Victoria, Talbot Trail, General Brock, Coronation, Frank W. Begley, Dougall Ave., David Maxwell, and Marlborough.
In keeping with the AGW’s mandate to foster visual literacy, the Tepperman’s support demonstrates the importance of positive arts experiences for students. Their sponsorship will allow youth to explore their passions in the arts and will set the foundation for a lifetime of involvement in arts and culture.
“We are fortunate to have the Tepperman’s generous support for our Arts Education Program at the Art Gallery of Windsor,” said JoAnne Fletcher, Manager of Development at the Art Gallery of Windsor. “We look forward to inspiring young minds with the power of the visual arts.”
The AGW’s K-12 curriculum-linked art program provides students with an opportunity to learn about the artistic approach and vision behind the Gallery’s current exhibitions. Following the tour, students are able to unleash their creativity in the studio with a custom-designed studio activity.
“We are thrilled to be able to give back to our community,” said Rochelle Tepperman. “We have always loved the arts and we hope that our sponsorship allows all students to develop their own passions at our local art gallery and that it may inspire other donors to follow our lead.”
The Tepperman Family has been part of the Windsor community since 1925 when Nate Tepperman began his door-to-door selling career. In 1929, the Teppermans opened their first store in Windsor on Ottawa Street. Since their modest beginnings, the Tepperman family business has grown and they now own several other locations in Chatham, Windsor, London, Kitchener, and Sarnia. The Tepperman family continues to take an active role in charitable causes and are treasured members of the Windsor community.
About the Art Gallery of Windsor: The Art Gallery of Windsor (AGW) is a valuable showcase of Canadian talent on the busiest border crossing between Canada and the United States. Established in 1943, the Art Gallery of Windsor was originally housed in Willistead Manor, where exhibitions and collections from other galleries could be displayed. Now, the AGW is housed in a modern state-of-the-art facility, reasserting its presence as a cultural hub in downtown Windsor.
