AWE at Night

Thursday, July 21, 2022 | 5 pm – 9 pm

Looking for something to do as the sun goes down?

On Thursday, July 21, the Gallery will be open late from 5-9 pm for AWE at Night featuring food and beverage pop-ups from local vendors as well as lively entertainment. Come on out for the beautiful views - both inside and out!

Art activities: 5pm - 7 pm

Looking to create? We have several activities for you!

  • Make your own activist poster with AWE's Emerging Artist-in-Residence, Michael Khalil. Create eye-catching activist posters that highlight important issues affecting the Windsor-Essex community.
  • Got art on the brain? So do we! Inspired by our exhibition Grey Matter: Your Brain on Art, use mixed-media materials to show us what happens to your brain when you look at art!

Curator tour of Itee Pootoogook: Hymns to the Silence with Dr. Nancy Campbell: 6pm - 6:30 pm

Join us for a tour of Itee Pootoogook: Hymns to the Silence, led by exhibition curator and special guest Dr. Nancy Campbell.

As one of the key members of the third-generation Inuit artists from Kinngait (Cape Dorset), Pootoogook contributed to the transformation and reshaping of the creative traditions that were successfully pioneered in the second half of the 20th century by members of the West Baffin Eskimo Cooperative, at Kinngait Studios. Known as a meticulous draughtsman and inventive landscapist, Pootoogook looked primarily to contemporary northern life for his subject matter. The understated images celebrate the mundane moments that make up the everyday.

Community Conversation: 6:30 - 7:15 pm

Join moderator Craig Pearson and panelists Sydney Brouillard-Coyle, Fartumo Kusow and Plamedi Matenda on the third floor of AWE for “Fighting for Freedom: A Community Conversation.” We encourage guests to familiarize themselves with AWE’s Code of Conduct prior to joining this event.

Music, food, and drink: 7 - 9 pm

CJAM 99.1 FM and WindsorEats are back, and we're welcoming Zule Eats!
Head up to the third floor to hear what CJAM has in store, grab a drink from WindsorEats, and get some Ghanaian patties from Zule Eats.

*Regular admission prices apply. Always free to members*
