Children's Summer Festival of Art

Wednesday, August 3, 2011 | 11 am – 4 pm

Are the dog days of summer hounding your family? Relief is just around the corner with the AGW Children's Summer Festival of Art. This all-day art extravaganza features performances that celebrate the natural elements air, water, fire and earth and activities based on the AGW's summer exhibitions and it's all FREE, thanks to CAW Local 444.

Join Rick Laporte, President CAW Local 444 and Ilias Kiritsis, AGW President, at noon along with special guests to officially open the AGW Children's Festival of Art.

Activities include
• Watercolour painting with emphasis on current exhibitions Diana Thorneycroft: Canada, Myth and History, Group of Seven Awkward Moments Series and Art for Canada exhibitions.
• Activities and performances from members of the Can-Am Friendship Centre celebrating First Nations culture and traditions with exhibitions Contemporary Voices: Jeff Thomas and Shelley Niro and Inuit Works from the AGW Collection.
• Visitors will add to a collaborative quilt of Canada based on Joyce Wieland's quilt in the exhibition Canada Patriot Loves: Visions of Canada in the Feminine
Biodegradable Garden Ornaments and All Torn Up round out earth-friendly activities

Performances
11 - 11:30 am: Can Am Friendship Centre: Dancers and drummers will officially open AGW Children's Festival of Art
11:30 am: Yoga - Air and Earth with Anita Kaiser and Aerial Yoga by Breathe Pilates and Yoga
12 pm: Opening Remarks, Rick Laporte, President CAW Local 444 and Ilias Kiritsis, AGW President
12-3 pm: Face Painting with GlitterFlyFace
12:15 - 1 pm: 100 Years of Music Celebrations continue featuring Nicolas Penny Quartet
1-2 pm: Baccanal: fire and water juggling, acrobats and stilt walking
2 - 2:45 pm: Cap't n Matt will share his adventures traveling the earth, across the water, propelled by the air to Volcano Island.
3:15 - 4 pm: Essex County Drum Circle
