Anatomy Lesson by Phillip Surrey and David Court

May 15 – August 15, 2004

Location: To Be Announced

While depicting contemporary life in his works, Phillip Surrey invites the viewer to consider a more free existence with fewer rules, and closer to the spirit of nature. In the urban landscape, he linkedĀ  his human subjects by the intimate motions of dance, involving intricate and practised stepts. However, his subjects are actually alone and self-involved, unaware of their artners in the dance.

For this exhibition, stage designer David Court has reworked the drawings and painting at life-size for a three-dimensional set, encouraging children to take on the role of one of the figures in the painting dancing across a city street.

Curated by Christine Goodchild.
