I want your girlfriend’s t-shirt: Call for Donations

IWYGT website

Do you have a piece of clothing that you have complicated feelings about? If you don’t know what else to do with it, you are invited to drop it off at The Art Gallery of Windsor on Thursday, September 23 and Saturday, September 25, from 11am - 5pm. Donations can be left with our visitor services staff at the visitor services desk on the second floor of the Gallery, or with one of our community partners (details below).

Artist Valentin Brown is accepting anything made of fabric, in any size or condition. Donations will be carefully transformed into works of art, displayed at Valentin’s upcoming exhibit at the Art Gallery of Windsor, entitled “Welcome to my Regulated Body”, guest curated by Noor Alé. The exhibit opens on February 11, 2022, and explores themes of queerness and disability.

To participate, please fill out the form below, or email Abbey Lee Hallett at if you have difficulty navigating online forms. Questions can also be directed to Abbey Lee. Postage will be provided to any participants who are unable to physically drop-off their donation.

The AGW would like to acknowledge its community partners: Trans Wellness Ontario, and the Disability Studies program at the University of Windsor.

Not sure if you want to participate?

if you have hair on your face
if you have trouble filling out forms
if you take up too much space
if you are scared of the doctor
if you are in between things
if you are looking for an exit
if you have given up on making lists

if you don’t know what to do with
your girlfriend’s t-shirt,
may I have it?

and if you don’t have her shirt,
may I have something else?

something you can’t get rid of
something borrowed
something that smells like home
something you used to wear
something full of holes
something stuck in the closet
something to hold

I won’t try to fix anything for you
I do think that you will meet again
someday, somehow

with love in my heart,
Valentin Brown
