Carl Beam: Four Directions

October 22, 2016 – January 22, 2017

Location: Second Floor Gallery

Carl Beam: Four Directions celebrates the work of Carl Beam (1943–2005), an artist of Anishnabe and Euro-American heritage born on Manitoulin Island, Ontario. Thanks to the generosity of Toronto collectors Florence and Milton Winberg, the Art Gallery of Windsor has been able to expand its holdings by this important artist who worked as a painter, printmaker, photographer, installation artist and muralist. Beam’s contributions to the contemporary art landscape have been widely recognized—including by the National Gallery of Canada, whose major retrospective Carl Beam: The Poetics of Being toured Canadian venues after launching in Ottawa, Ontario in 2010.

Curated by Jaclyn Meloche in collaboration with Education and Public Programs Coordinator, Jessica Cook
